Friday Face-Off

Friday Face-Off: Greek

This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but up-kept by Lynn’s Book Blog.

“The only true wisdom is to know that you know nothing”

This weeks theme: A cover featuring something from Greek mythology.

My Choice: The Sea of Monsters

Not gonna lie this was a tough one for me to find a cover for.  At first I couldn’t think of anything except Hermes and his winged shoes, but I couldn’t think of a book that I have read that would have a picture of him. (I know it doesn’t have to be a book I have read but I like it to be) Next I thought of “cheating” a bit and just using a cover with a sword, but that felt like a cop out.  After that I came up with “An Ember in The Ashes” which has a Greek Vibe or “The Odyssey” which is Greek but I have used both of those covers already.  My next thought was Hercules but google told me he was Roman.  Finally I remembered Percy Jackson was the son of Poseidon and Poseidon is Greek! So those covers have to count! I chose the second book because it has a cyclops which is cooler than just some lightning.

Winner:

Sea01

This is hands down the winner for me.  My favorite three covers are the first, second and sixth.  The rest don’t have monsters which I think is a waste (tho I do like the blues and greens)  I like this one best because the monster is HUGE but kind of hidden as well.  I like that the kids are silhouetted so you can still use your imagination on what they look like.  Finally I like the ship on this cover way better than on the second cover.

      1. The first books I thought of were the Fury’s. I read and enjoyed the series but the covers didn’t really depict anything to do with Greek myth. The Immortals was one I spotted last week when I was looking through my GR shelf. But that didn’t work because it had only one cover. Gods behaving badly was the other that I thought of. I remembered that from a few years ago and it does have a few covers.

      2. I quite often find that I have a book in mind but there’s only one cover. Or, more annoying I can think of a book I’ve read that suits the theme but can’t remember the title. Which is most frustrating.

  1. I adore this serie!! Its funny, has mythology in it and overall the stories are full of action and you can bond with the main characters. Thats always a plus with me 😊 also agree on your choice of cover! Love it!

    1. I loved this series too, but never finished it because I had to wait for new releases and then just never picked it up again. Now its been so long that I would have to re-read the first ones to remember what was going on, and I just don’t have the time haha 🙂

      1. I find that the serie is a real good pick me up if you’re in a bad or sad mood. Or if you’ve read a really dark tale that leaves you a little gloomy or heavy, this is the precise counterpill you could take! 😊 so take that as a tip that you won’t regret! 😊😊

  2. That fourth cover is the stuff of garbage and nightmares. It. Is. Terrible.
I’m on a fence about whether the first or sixth is my favorite. I’d probably go with one just because it is the version I own…and have read probably a dozen times since it was published.
