Friday Face-Off: Hands / May the 4th be with you

This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but kept up by Lynn’s Book Blog.

A Hand without a hand? A bad jape, sister.

This weeks theme: A cover featuring a hand/hands.

My Choice: Han Solo at Stars’ End

I know! I know! The theme is “Hands” not “May the 4th be with you” But today is Star Wars day and it would be blasphemous not to do a Star Wars post.  Plus, the super famous “Han Solo Stance” kinda features his hand … on a blaster.

That is literally the first picture that comes up when you google “Han Solo” It totally counts!

Covers:

Del Rey Sept 1979 | Del Rey March 1979| Del Rey 1980 | Sphere 1979
Mondadori 1980 | Amber 1996 | Fleuve Noir 2005 | İthaki Yayınları 2005
Del Rey Jan 1979 | Pendragon Könyvkiadó 1992 | Эксмо 2000 | Bruna 1980

Most of the covers are just variations of the original cover (Del Rey Jan 1979) with the “Han Solo Stance”, Chewbacca, with the two moons behind them. I do like that cover but its kind of old and out dated looking. Even tho it only came out a year later, I like the Del Rey 1980 cover much better.

Winner:

Han03

Which is your favorite? Do you agree with my pick? Do you love Han Solo too? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Who cares what the theme is Han Solo. I can’t even remember which was my favourite because I can’t function now. Okay, I’ve gone and taken another look – your winner is defo the one.

  2. Ooh I remember seeing this at a used bookstore I think and thinking a Han Solo trilogy? I’ve never read it though. I may have to track it down! I do like the one you picked, and I like the original blue one too, maybe because that’s the one I saw. 🙂

    1. As far as I can tell there are actually two main Han Solo trilogies. One by Brian Daley and the other by Ann C. Crispin. I have read one of them but it was so long ago that I can’t figure out which one it was! 🤦 I own both and have been meaning to read them both.
