3 Quotes, 3 Days Tag V2 – Day 1

This is the second time I am doing this tag! This time around I was tagged by Suziey @ Of All The Books In All The Libraries and Mischenko @ Read Rant Rock & Roll.  Not long after I did my original set of quotes I was tagged by Samantha @ Modern Witch’s Book Shelf and Malanie @ Malanie Loves Fiction.  I didn’t want to do the tag again right away, but now that enough time has passed I am doing it again! And am considering myself tagged by all four of these amazing bloggers! Go check them out!

Here were my original 3 quote posts:

Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you

“Fairy tales are more than true – not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us dragons can be beaten.”
– Neil Gaiman

Funny thing about this quote, Neil Gaiman was actually trying to quote Gilbert Keith Chesterton, but he couldn’t remember the full quote so he just paraphrased it.  He was originally going to go back and fix it but he forgot.  Here was the original quote:

“Fairy tales, then, are not responsible for producing in children fear, or any of the shapes of fear; fairy tales do not give the child the idea of the evil or the ugly; that is in the child already, because it is in the world already. Fairy tales do not give the child his first idea of bogey. What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon. Exactly what the fairy tale does is this: it accustoms him for a series of clear pictures to the idea that these limitless terrors had a limit, that these shapeless enemies have enemies in the knights of God, that there is something in the universe more mystical than darkness, and stronger than strong fear.”

That is a doozy of a quote and personally I like Neil Gaiman’s version much better!  Which do you like better?

I am not going to tag anyone, but if you want to do this then consider yourself tagged!
