I love the word “Nope” its right up there with “Epic” and “Fail” on the list of words I probably shouldn’t use nearly as often as I do.
I was tagged by Marrill @ Books and Ravens. Their “About” page states “I’m a Cabin 3 Gryffindor who obsesses over Piéra Forde and occasionally takes photos.” If that isn’t enough to convince you how awesome they are then you need to go check out their blog!! Right now! Seriously, Go! You can come back to my post later!
I couldn’t find rules or an original creator, so I am going to jump right into the tag!
A book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage or simply because the ending was crappy.
I didn’t really like any part of 1984, (the book not the year, I wasn’t alive in 1984) but the ending was particularly crappy.
A main character you dislike and drives you crazy.
I honestly can’t think of one for this. I am sure there are plenty of protagonists that drove me crazy, but I can’t think of any!
A series that turned out to be a huge pile of nope after you’ve invested all of that time and energy on it.
The Remnant Chronicles. I loved the first book, the second book was just ok, and the third book was annoying.
A “ship” you don’t support.
I know this is a movie not a book but I do not support Black Widow and the Hulk! I loved Black Widow and Hawkeye!! They should have been together!
NOPE. plot twist:
A twist you didn’t see coming and didn’t like.
The ending/twist in Allegiant
A genre you will never read.
Horror! I son’t do scary!
NOPE. book format:
A book format you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition.
I avoid buying editions that collect all the books in a series* into one edition because they are usually too big to carry around and actually read. I would rather read all the books individually. The exception is that if it is a series I have read and loved I will buy the collected works edition as a collectors copy.
*by series I mean either all the books in a series or all the books by a certain author, or really any grouping of books they would stick into one big book!
A trope that makes you go NOPE.
A book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read.
I don’t get a lot of books pushed at me but I feel like 50 Shades of Grey is wildly popular and I have been told I should read it. I did gave it a try but never finished it and I refuse to try and read it again.
A cliché or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.
I hate the “you’re not like other girls” cliché! All girls are different! You shouldn’t get props for being more different and you shouldn’t be ridiculed for being less different! Girls are awesome!
NOPE. love interest:
A love interest that’s not worthy of being one.
George Wickham! I know Elizabeth never really loves him, and that Kitty only fancies herself in love, but he is lowdown, no good, piece of scum!
A book that shouldn’t have existed.
Lord of the Flies. That book is messed up!
A villain you would hate to cross.
I wouldn’t want to cross any villains! But if I had to pick one in particular it would be Dolores Umbridge.
A character death that still haunts you.
I tend to get pretty attached to all the “good guy” characters so pretty much all their deaths haunt me, but here are some that really stood out:
- Tris (Allegiant)
- Izabel, The Brand, Sweet Boy, Kurti (Saga)
- Cedric Diggory, Sirius Black, Dumbledore, Hedwig, Mad-Eye Moody, Dobby, Fred, Remus Lupin, Tonks, Snape (Harry Potter)
- Brom (Eragon)
An author you had a bad experience reading and have decided to quit.
George R.R. Martin. I read 4.5 of the 5 released books in the Song of Ice and Fire series. I really enjoyed parts of the first 4 books, but I mainly kept reading to get to the chapters with Arya’s character. There was a lot going on but I read them one right after another so I was able to keep track of what was going on. But then the 5th book is pretty much just the 4th book from different perspectives, which meant no Arya chapters! I got bored with it and never finished it. The 6th book isn’t slated to come out till 2020 (according to goodreads) That is waaaaay too long of a gap! I would need to re-read books 1-5 in order to understand the 6th book and I really don’t want to do that! So, I probably won’t ever finish reading the series. And I won’t pick up any other books by George R.R. Martin because I am bitter about him taking such a long break from this series!
As always, you don’t have to do this tag if you don’t want to! Also you don’t have to be tagged to do this tag! If you do it (whether tagged or not) send me your link in the comments and I will check it out!
