Picking books I will Like

I straight up stole this good habit from Consu because I couldn’t think of anything.  But I am really good at picking books I will like, I like most of what I read!

Sharing books

I am not super picky about the condition of my books, so I don’t mind lending them, and I am not protective of them.  If they don’t get returned to me (as long as it doesn’t become a regular habit) I don’t mind thinking of it as a gift! Especially if they really liked the book!

If I am with a child at a book store I will always buy them at least one book

So this one has a story behind it.  I was at a used book store, and there was a mom that was buying about 5 books for herself but when her daughter picked out a book she told her daughter she couldn’t have it.  I am sure there is more to the story, maybe the daughter has a million unread books at home, but they were in the store for a good hour and the mom wouldn’t let her daughter get a book.  And, even tho her daughter kept asking, the mom didn’t give a good reason, she just kept saying “not today.”  I ended up buying the girl her book (it was a middle grade chapter book for like $2) because I could never imagine not buying a child a book!  Both prior to this and since then, I have been in book stores with my brother and/or niece and I always have them pick out a book! Even my brother who doesn’t like reading, if I drag him to the bookstore he gets a book!

I am not judgy about other people’s reading habits

I love Pride and Prejudice but I know a lot of people don’t, and that is ok! We don’t have to like the same books.  Life would be boring if everyone liked the exact same things! Do you like horror books? Good for you! I hate them haha.  And its not just the type of books – I don’t care if you have different views on book care too.  I am not careful with my books, but if you are, I respect that.  If I borrow one of your books I will keep it in the condition you lent it to me in, because I know it matters to you.  Everyone has different quirks and that is what makes the blogging community so great.

I Tag:

I am going to tag Leslie and Malanie for this one because I tagged them for the bad reading habits tag, and I think these go together really well!

As always, don’t feel obligated to participate! But, if you do, let me know so I can check out your answers!

  1. These are some really good habits! I especially love the one where you spread the love of reading to the next generation 😂 I wish I had someone like that when I was a kid
I ALSO stole that first good habit so I won’t judge 😅

  2. Oh yeah, it does go well! Thanks for the tag!

So cool that you bought the book!! I was in Half Price Books with my husband a couple months ago. There was a kid asking his mom for a book. She said, not today. 😱 I tried not to judge bc of circumstances. She had books for herself in her hand. I looked at my husband and we shared a look. I wouldn’t ever say no to my kid wanting a book! I would put mine back first. Not all kids like to read and it’s awesome when they do! I should have bought the book for him! Next time, I will. 🙂 I always buy books for my nieces and nephews tho! I’m that Aunt! I buy clothes they need and books! Who am I kidding?!? Books are a need too. 😂😂

    1. Noooo 😦 That hurts my heart! There is more than one parent out there that did this to their kid 😦 The situation you saw sounds identical to the one I witnessed. I had hoped that it was a super rare occurrence!

I have bought my brother a bunch of books and he probably reads 1 out of every 5, but I still don’t think its a waste of money because every time he finds 1 he actually reads is a step forward! The last one I got him was a fortnight manual and he actually read it. I thought it was super weird haha but at least he is reading!!

And you are right! books are totally a need! I am glad you buy books for your nieces!

      1. Girl, I wish! I worked at a library for almost 5 years. I saw parents say no to FREE books from the library! Are you kidding me?! It is crazy.

That’s great though. Even if he isn’t a huge reader a little is better than none!! Such a great role model. :):)

  3. Oh my Gosh! Who doesn’t buy the kid a book? I mean I suppose if you’re just walking through but if your lingering come on. It’s kind of a tradition to take my nephew even though his current thing is to try to get me to buy him Deadpool comics. 🙂 It was nice of you to buy it for her!

  4. Aww…this so sweet. The first time I went to a bookstore and had my son with me, i thought he’d just complain until we left. But he left me, found a book and asked if he could have it…. I was like please please please yes ask for any book and you will have it. Lol. I was just thrilled he wanted to read and actually chose one for himself.
