I recently saw a post by Nicole @ Book-Wyrm-Knits where she talked about all the different series she is reading, where she is in them, and if she thinks she will finish them.
This reminded me of a post I wrote last April: My love/hate relationship with series and I decided that I wanted to re-visit this idea!
Here are my stats from April to now:
April 2018 | January 2019 | |
Series I Started | 84 | 103 |
Series I Finished | 31 | 37 |
Series I didn’t finish because all the books weren’t released | 25 | 30 |
Series I only read one book from | 17 | 28 |
Books Read | 266 | 293 |
As you can see my numbers increased quite a bit in the last 9 months. So lets look at a breakdown of some of the series:
Series I am Reading Currently
- Dragonshadow (Heartstone #2) by Elle Katharine White
- The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air #2) by Holly Black
Series I WILL finish
- Fire and Ice Trilogy by K.F. Breene (I’ve read the first two. The third is released but I want to re-read the first two before I start the 3rd.)
- Grace And Fury by Tracy Banghart (2nd book is scheduled to be released in July 2019)
- Nevernight by Jay Kristoff (3rd book is scheduled to be released in September 2019)
- The Folk of the Air by Holly Black (Currently reading the 2nd book. The 3rd book is scheduled to be released in 2020)
- Heartsone by Elle Katharine White (Currently reading the 2nd book. 3rd book is scheduled to be released in September 2019)
- Velvet by Temple West (3rd book does not have a scheduled release date)
Series I want to finish but probably won’t get to anytime soon
- Amra Thetys by Michael McClung (I’ve read the first 2 but there are 7 total and I don’t feel like committing to a long series)
- An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir (I enjoyed the first two but am not motivated to re-read them before starting the next book)
- An Uncertain Choice by Jody Hedlund (I liked the first two but I would need to re-read them before reading the next 3)
- Bookish Boyfriends by Tiffany Schmidt (The 2nd book is expected to be released in May)
- Guardians of Tarnec by Sandra Waugh (There are supposed to be 4 books. The 1st two were released in 2014 and 2015. The next two don’t have titles or release dates so who knows if they will ever get written)
- The Adventures of Jason Lex by Wendy Terrien (I liked the 1st book but am not really in the mood to read the rest of the series right now)
- Villains by V.E. Schwab (I tried reading Vengeful and couldn’t get into it, but I want to give it another try)
- The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind (I really just need to commit and read this!)
- A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin (Lets be honest … do we really think Martin is ever going to finish the books?)
Series I want to start
- Courting Darkness Duology by Robin LaFevers (I am so excited for this spin off series from His Fair Assassin Series!! The first book is expected to be released next month!)
- The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater (I’ve been meaning to read this for a while. I even own the first book)
- Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
- The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss
- Montague Siblings by Mackenzi Lee
- Book of the Ancestor by Mark Lawrence
Notable series I won’t finish
Notable series I’ve finished
What series are you currently reading? Have you read some of the same ones I have? Are there any I need to read? Talk to me!
It’s fun to see which series other bloggers have read! I didn’t consider adding a list of the ones I have already finished or don’t intend to finish… there are so many! Thanks for the pingback!

Thanks for the post idea! 😀 and yea, I didn’t include all of my finished and DNF series because there are too many, and I just did the collage for the same reason!

It might be worth a sub-post later to look at just the series I DNF’d or finished, if I find myself in need of blog material. Hmm, worth a thought.

I don’t even want to think about all the unfinished series I have on the go – it’s just overwhelming.

This is pretty impressive! I don’t think I’ve ever made a lost of all the series I’ve read or am reading. I think for me group that would be longest would be “series I want to read”😁

Haha thanks, I have a spreadsheet where I keep track of all my books I have read and It list the series name and the book placement in the series!

Whew, looks like you’ve got plenty of series to read! 😀 How are you liking Dragonshadow? I unfortunately DNF’d it even though I loved Heartstopper, and I haven’t decided if I’ll give it another shot… 😕 But you MUST read the Raven Cycle and the Montague Siblings duology…not to add more pressure or anything! 😉

Hahah soooo many books to read!! I am loving Dragonshadow so far! I just finished chapter 10. (I’m doing a buddy read or I would probably have finished it already) I’m sorry you didn’t like it! Haha no pressure! At least not any more than I am already feeling by wanting to read them 😀

That’s awesome that you’re enjoying Dragonshadow! 😄

Wow you have it all super organized! I can’t even get it together on Goodreads long enough they keep throwing series at me 🙂
I always say Martin doesn’t have to finish he just has to give me Winds and bring it to a good place answer the questions from Dragons and I’ll be a happy girl and can write my own ending from there!

Haha I don’t know if I would call it super organized! I have a spreadsheet with all the books I have read and I also track the series name and the books # in the series! I don’t need him to write all the books either! But I would like for all the loose ends to be tied up! There are just to many!

In regards to the kingkiller chronicles I don’t know if he is ever going to put out that 3rd book.

Also if you don’t mind I may do a similar post since one of my goals this year is to finish or catch up on series that I have.

Of course! I don’t mind 🙂 I would love to see all the series you have going! I’d appreciate if you tag me in it tho, so I can see your post!

The Name of the Wind was published in 2007 and the Wise Man’s fear was in 2011 but there is still no date for the last one.

Noooooo! That is awful haha I will definitely hold off on that series for now then haha

Your organization skills really make me look bad. You know that, right? 🙂

Haha sorry! I promise they aren’t that good! I have a spreadsheet with 6 columns. Book Title, Series Name, Order in Series, Author, Date Published, Date Read. Its fairly simple!

Fantastic post! I really should do a post like this because the amount of ongoing series I am in the middle of is ridiculous lol.

Very cool post! I’ve also been sitting here trying to decide what series I’m planning to start and finish this year. Scrolling through your post reminds me of series I had actually forgotten I had even started, lol.

Haha I have a giant list of all the books I have read and I have the ones in a series marked, so it was super easy to see all the ones I haven’t finished! I could never remember them all otherwise!

I feel like I would have to hang my head in shame if I figured how many series I started and never finished. I know there are a few that have dated back five years plus… Aw! You aren’t going to finish the Lighting Thief series? I guess I understand. I started them when I was fifteen so i was still young enough for their humor. I need to finish the His Fair Assassin series before I start the new duology. It’s made me want to read the books with vigor to not get too behind.

There is no shame in abandoning series!!! And no haha I read all the ones that were released at the time and I enjoyed them, but I would have to go back and re-read them if I wanted to finish the series, and I just don’t have time for that 😂😂 I can’t wait for the His Fair Assassin Duology!!

I am also currently reading The Game of Thrones series but they are so long I am not sure when I will get them all read either… I need to start quite a lot of the series you mention actually! I have a few faves in the series you’ve finished and some in the series you don’t intend to finish. I hope you will be able to enjoy your series books coming up though ^.^

Those are some good ones! Especially Divergent and Inkheart! (Cuz I finished them haha) I didn’t dislike the others but I just got caught up with all the released books and then had to wait forever and wasn’t interested in picking them back up 😂😂

This is a great post. I have so many different series that I have started, read one or more books in and others I want to read that I could never do a post like this.

Thanks 😀 And yea I don’t read nearly as much as you haha so I could only imagine what your list would look like! I have a list of all the books I have read and the ones in series are marked so it was fairly easy to get the data all listed out!

Great article!
I just discovered about The Cruel Prince series this year. Definitely hope to start reading the first book in that series this year. I haven’t read many series but in 2018 I did read YOU and the sequel to it by Caroline Kepnes. Totally crazy twisted reads, but really good too. I just read the 1st book for the series To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. Really great 1st book! Can’t wait to read more from that series during this year. Currently reading Love, Simon.

Thanks 😊 I have never heard of You, but I know a lot of people really love To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and I think they made it into a netflix movie or something? I hope you enjoy the rest of the series! I really liked Love, Simon ❤

YOU is a fantastic read if you like thrillers. There’s also a sequel to it as well. They’re both by Caroline Kepnes. They are definitely very twisted crazy reads, but the best thrillers I’ve ever read.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han was a really fun book read, and I definitely needed a change of genre for the moment after reading YOU and its sequel back to back. The Netflix film was really well adapted. Definitely a great read and movie.

Twilight, The Kiss of Deception, and HP are a few I’ve read and finished. I do horribly at finishing series. I had so many I wanted to finish last year, and just never got around to it. Whoops.

Haha at least you finished HP! Its the best ❤

Excellent post Brittany! Love to be able to visually see what you have finished compared with the ones you don’t want to finish or desire to finish. I try hard to read the sequels as they come off the press. Sometimes books slip through the cracks… Thanks for sharing! ❤️❤️

Thanks 🙂 I don’t like letting things through the cracks haha so I felt I needed to round up all the unfinished series and then make a conscious decision on if I should finish them! There are waaaay to many to finish them all. 🙂
