This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but currently run by Lynn’s Book Blog.
“Two little fishes and a momma fishy too.”
This weeks theme: A cover featuring a fish/fishes or other sea creatures
This week’s topic was a little difficult – not because I couldn’t find a cover with a sea creature, but because I have already used most of the titles I could think of:
- Island of the Blue Dolphins (Under the Sea)
- Nim’s Island (Seeds/Spores)
- Mr. Popper’s Penguins (Icicles or Snow)
- The Sea of Monsters (Greek)
My Choice: The Black Pearl
Covers:
HMH 1967 | Houghton Mifflin 1967 | Carousel 1971 | Turtleback 1977
Laurel Lea 1977 | Dell 1978 | Gramedia 1979 | Perfection Learning 1996
Matichon 2005 | Lectorum 2009 | HMH 2010 | Xiao Lu Wen Hua 2010
I don’t remember much about this book, other than I read it in school and I read the Turtleback 1977 edition.
Least Favorites:
I really like the outline of the stingray in the first one but it is covered by the pearl and the top island is too romance novel ish.
Favorites:
The third cover here I really like how the image is inside the black pearl, but I am not a huge fan of the image they chose. I really like the other two and am having trouble picking my favorite!
Winner:
I love the color of this one and how it shows just how big the manta ray is!
Brittany it saddens me to say that …I don’t like any *sigh*.

Haha that is ok 🙂 there aren’t any completely stunning ones in the group so it doesn’t surprise me!

Lol if I had to pick one it would have been the last one listed in your least favorite picks.

Haha I liked that one at fist glance, but the depth perception seems all wrong and it looks too photoshopped and it was bugging me 😂

Lol I get that now that I’m really looking at it.

I really like the HMH 2010, for some reason. Great choice!

That one’s not bad, it looks really pretty but I thought it was kind of boring haha

Yours is a good choice. I also like the cover of the boy leaning over the boat. I haven’t read this book, but I see it won the Newbery. Great cover selections!

Thanks 🙂 That one is really pretty but kind of boring too, in my opinion

I like the ‘67 line drawing and the 2010 cover, your third favorite. Lots of covers for this book. Thanks Brittany. ❤️❤️

I like the one you picked as well, and also the Dell ’78 and the Lectorum ’79 covers. And man is that manta ray big or what??
