2019 Audiobook Challenge Sign-Up

I know I am a little late to the party but I am going to join the 2019 Audiobook Challenge! I have never done a challenge other than the Goodreads Challenge, so I am both excited and weirdly nervous?  (Also the details say I can join whenever!!)

The Audiobook Challenge is hosted by Hot Listens and the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is the 7th year they have hosted it! If you are interested check out the Sign-Up Page and the Goodreads Group!

Challenge Details

  • Runs January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019. You can join at any time.
  • The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2019 than you did in 2018.
  • Books must be in audio format (CD, MP3, etc.)
  • ANY genres count.
  • Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.
  • You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Facebook, LibraryThing, etc.
  • If you’re a blogger grab the button and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. If you’re not a blogger you can help by posting on Facebook or Tweeting about the challenge.
  • Updates plus a giveaway will be posted twice during the year. The first update will be June 30, 2019, and the last update will take place on December 15, 2019.

Achievement Levels

  • Newbie (I’ll give it a try) 1-5
  • Weekend Warrior (I’m getting the hang of this) 5-10
  • Stenographer (can listen while multitasking) 10-15
  • Socially Awkward (Don’t talk to me) 15-20
  • Binge Listener (Why read when someone can do it for you) 20-30
  • My Precious (I had my earbuds surgically implanted) 30+
  • Marathoner (Look Ma No Hands) 50+

Last year was really the first year I had ever consistently listened to Audiobooks and I listened to 12 of them.  So far this year I have listened to 5.  If I keep up the same pace that will put me at 20 audiobooks in 2019 so I am going to try for Socially Awkward (Don’t talk to me) 15-20.

  1. I am not sure if I should get into this. I just need to do this post but do it compared with my 2018 in audiobooks to this year in audiobooks right? haha I do listen to a few audiobooks per month… hmmm I couldn’t with The Night Circus it didn’t make sense for me that the narrator was an old man XD

    1. On of the goals is to liten to more audiobooks, but if you didn’t join the challenge last year then I am sure you don’t have to round up all the ones you listened to? I just did it because I was curious!

I loved the Narrator for The Night Circus! He also does the Harry Potter books. But I struggled with the Night Circus because of the time jumps and I had trouble following those on the Audiobook

      1. Hmm get it get it! I am trying to get more into the audiobooks too! 🙂 but I don’t want the pressure of a challenge haha I found it so weird that he, old, narrated the main character… like she was a young woman and I didn’t find the voice matching haha but I am weird xD

  2. Hi! I have recently started listening to audio books. I like them, but they don’t replace the printed book for me. I think they’re great for certain times, though, like walking or doing things around the house. I just started one today, The Banker’s Wife by Cristina Alger. You really have to let go of wanting to keep track of things when you’re listening and just enjoy the story. Great post – good luck with your challenge – I think you’re on your way!

      1. I just finished listening to The Banker’s Wife, and I enjoyed it, but I must confess, I checked out the print copy at the library because I needed to go back and get the names straight and re-read how it finished! Audio books definitely have their place, though. Thanks for reading and commenting, Perfectly Tolerable 🙂
