April
April was rough for me reading and blog-wise, but life-wise it was fine, just super super busy! I would still say I had a good April even though my stats don’t really show it.
On the blog I got super far behind with replying to comments and blog-hopping, but I am slowly catching back up! If you have an April post that you are super proud of or even kind of happy with, let me know and I will check it out!
Books I read:
- This Savage Song (Review | Amazon | Goodreads)
- The Princess and the Fangirl (Review | Amazon | Goodreads)
- Shades of Magic Vol. 1: The Steel Prince (Amazon | Goodreads)
- The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 1: The Apocalypse Suite (Amazon | Goodreads)
- The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 2: Dallas (Amazon | Goodreads)
- Our Dark Duet (Amazon | Goodreads)
- Getting Hot with the Scot (Review | Amazon | Goodreads)
I only read 7 books and 3 were graphic novels and 2 were audiobooks. I haven’t published reviews for 4 of the books, but 3 of the reviews are written! (and the fourth is a lost cause and I am not going to worry about it 😀 )
Challenges:
- 2019 Audiobook Challenge
- New Books: 2
- Total: 7/20
- 2019 Retellings Reading Challenge
- New Books: 1
- Total: 3/8
We are 1/3 of the way through 2019 and I am pretty much 1/3 of the way through each challenge so I am on track.
Around the Blogosphere:
As a direct result of my low blog hopping levels, I don’t have very many posts to highlight this month. 😦
Dani @ Perspective of a Writer talks about why she usually avoids adult fantasy. I love adult fantasy but it was fun to look at things from her point of view. Most of her arguments against adult fantasy are the same thiungs that turn me off of Epic Fantasies.
Kay @ Hammock of Books brings up the sensitive subject of consumerism and materialism in the bookish community. She reminds us that not everyone can buy all the books they want, and this does not make them any less of a bookworm. (And I totally agree!)
May
This May I am participating in Wyrd & Wonder! Hopefully I will have a lot of fantasy related content coming your way!!
Currently Reading:
Up Next TBR
The TV show releases May 31st and I want to make sure I finish the book before it comes out!
Tentative TBR:
- Dark Triumph – Reread (Amazon | Goodreads)
- Mortal Heart – Reread (Amazon | Goodreads)
- Courting Darkness (Amazon | Goodreads)
- The Silvered (Amazon | Goodreads)
- Sherwood – Retelling (Amazon | Goodreads)
I am watching binge GOT so there is a chance I won’t get a ton of reading done.
Not a bad month Brittany! And yes sometimes life can get in the way!

Ooh, I really want to read Huff’s The Silvered, too. It’s been on my TBR for what feels like ages, and I just haven’t gotten to it yet. Just realized — it was on my paper TBR list, but not Goodreads. Maybe that’s part of why I’ve been forgetting about reading it.

Its been on my short list TBR for MONTHS haha so I really should have read it by now 😂😂 but for some reason I keep pushing it back

Ooh I hope you enjoy Good Omens! I’m so excited for the TV show! 😄
Sorry to hear that it was a rough month in terms of reading, but at least you managed to get some books finished, and your goals are coming along! Happy reading in May!!

Thanks! I hope I like it too 😂 I haven’t read anything by either Terry Pratchett or Neil Gaiman but I’ve been wanting to! So this kills two birds with one stone, plus everyone seems to love it, and the TV show looks good! Thanks! Happy reading to you too ❤

Hmm what did you think of Getting Hot with The Scot?

Urg I both loved it and hated it haha. 95% of the story was great but the other 5% bugged me enough that it ruined the whole book for me.

Oh no! I hated how they met but didn’t mind the rest.

I didn’t like that he kept getting mad at her and I don’t think she did anything wrong. I didn’t like how he almost completely ruined her career and then she ended up apologizing!

I didn’t realize the Umbrella Academy were also books (or graphic noves)… ot if I did I guess I forgot. I’ve been thinking of starting the show. And glad it was a good month!

The show was absolutely amazing! I didn’t love the books tho. They were hard to follow 😦

I’m almost done Princess and the Fangirl and I think I’m going to wind up liking it better than Geekerella 🙂 Which is kind of strange because in the beginning and did not like Jess! Hope May is calmer for you!

I got behind as well, unfortunately – life kicked me upside the head and I’ve abandoned all things blogging and social media, LOL. You did great despite being busy, though! Hopefully things will die down for you soon to be more manageable. 🙂
(Also I didn’t know Umbrella Academy is a graphic novel???? I still need to watch the show though.)

Ah I’m sorry life was rough last month! I hope May is much better ❤
And yes! It is! But I really disliked the graphic novel. It was confusing and hard to follow. The show was amazing though ❤

I was definitely surprised at how different Umbrella Academy show was vs the comics!

I was too! Tho I’m glad it was because I didn’t like the books and the TV show was awesome haha

Same! I was surprised at not liking the books, because all the internet articles about the show were super positive about the source material (and overstated how closely it was adapted). Maybe they hadn’t read it? It felt more like the show was inspired by the story ideas in the comics, rather than by the comics themselves.

Did you read both graphic novels? They definitely combined the two story lines into one which completely changes both haha. So I could see how they would say it was closely adapted, but at the same time a lot changed 😂😂 But the ending was totally different!

I think the graphic novels are worth reading but I didn’t really like them. I loved the show, but the books were confusing and hard to follow.
