Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm. It is a weekly meme where you pick your top 5 books for a given topic. This month’s topics are books that start with specific letter’s. Today is F-G-H-I-J.
You can see A-B-C-D-E here.
My goal is to pick one book from each letter that I have read and want to spotlight (not necessarily my favorite book, because Shanah’s goal is to spotlight books we love that are overshadowed by our normal favorites) and one book that is on my TBR!
Last week I chose The Adventures of Robin Hood for “A” because it kicked off my slight obsession with Robin Hood adaptations. This week I am continuing that thought with The Forest Queen. It is probably the best Robin Hood Cover ever!
I have been meaning to read The Falconer for a while now and I have had it personally recommended to me, so I should probably pick it up sooner rather than later!
It was soooo hard not to pick Good Omens because I am sort of obsessed with it right now! But I am trying to spotlight books I loved that get overshadowed by other favorites!
I didn’t really want to read The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue but I ended up loving it and am glad I changed my mind!
And now that I have read The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue I really want to read The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky, but I can’t find it anywhere 😦 (it was a promo for pre-ordering a Lady’s guide to Petticoats and Piracy) But I heard she is going to release it again so that is super exciting!
I have read a LOT of books that start with H! More than any other letter so far.
Harriet the Spy was one of my childhood favorites! I read it so many times and I had the movie on a bright orange VHS tape. I watched it so often that I eventually lost the case but I never lost the VHS!
I started reading Hunted but got distracted and never picked it back up. I still really want to read it, but my dog recently ate my copy 😦
Inkheart was an amazing series and I wish the movie had been better. I’m surprised I don’t see this book on more lists. I list it up there with Eragon!
I only have two books on my TBR that start with “I” -> Ink by Elizabeth Hunter and Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine. Both sound super amazing but Ink is about a Bookstore / Tattoo Parlor combo that sounds amazing!
I don’t read a lot of non-fiction and I only know Wil Wheaton from The Big Bang theory, so I am not sure what possessed me to read this book, but I liked it a lot!
This is another letter where I only have two choices on my TBR: Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix and Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor. I picked the latter because it was recently recommended to me as a book containing “prehistoric beasties” (aka dinosaurs) and it sounds amazing!
The Falconer is fantastic! For some reason I never finished the trilogy, but wow, I loved that first book😁

I should read Wil Wheaton’s memoir. His Star Trek TNG character was my childhood crush (common for nerd girls my age) and I really like the audiobooks he’s narrated more recently.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is one of my favorite reads. I went into it not really expecting to even like it but fell in love with Monty and Felicity.

Me too! But I can’t find a copy since it was a pre-order incentive, though I have heard she is planning on releasing it to everyone else so that is super exciting!

I did get it for preordering but I still haven’t read it yet because I’m lame, lol.

I read Harriet the Spy with my kids, but that is about it. I have Inkheart on my TBR and kind of forgot about it, but I need to see if I can find my copy. I really enjoyed this post.

Did your kids love Harriet the Spy? Did you guys watch the movie too? I can still picture my bright orange VHS copy of it 😂 Inkheart is great! I hope you like it if you get to it 🙂 Thanks!
