Friday Face Off: Autumn/Fall

Friday Face Off is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, and run by Lynn’s Book Blog. You can check out all my past Friday Face Offs here.

“Warm September brings the fruit.”

This weeks theme:  A cover that that is seasonal for Autumn/Fall.

My Choice: The Adventures of Robin Hood

Looking at the covers, most of these might be a little too green for fall, but whenever I read Robin Hood books I usually picture them taking place in early fal.!

Covers:

Puffin 1995 (1) | Penguin 2010 | Puffin 1995 (2) | Puffin 1984

Penguin 2010 | Fatherland 1983 | Puffin 2015 | Folio Society 2001

Readers Circle 1990 | Geographical 1998 | Minos 2013 | Thorndike 2005

Bertrand 2019 | Penguin 1971 | VUM 2006 | Areopagus

Surround and Path 2004 | Shameless | Jump | Dame 1990

Loeb 1982 | Star 1992 | Penguin 1997 | Minos 1999

Least Favorites:

Why is the one cover just a film reel?!?!
Favorites:

The cover on the right I love the Robin Hood but I hate the Maid Marian and Friar Tuck.
Honorable Mention:
RobinHood08
I love that they made this cover look like a video game. Maybe in an attempt to get more kids to read it? Its awesome!
Winner:
RobinHood01
I think nostalgia is winning here, because this is the cover I have, but I like the more modern looking Robin Hood and the leaves all around him!

Which is your favorite? Do you agree with my choice? Let me know in the comments!!

      1. I’m definitely interested! I’m planning on adding it in every few weeks. I don’t know any curse books but I definitely have some in mind for hair so I’m keen to start next week 😀 I’ll tag you in the post for bringing this meme to my attention ❤

  1. Ahh… *sighs* I used to own this book! I also had Roger Lanceyln Green’s ‘Greek Heroes’ – they were so much fun:)). What a lovely selection of covers, but the one that wins hands down for me is that lovely 2001 Folio Society – so classy. I think this is a lovely choice for this week’s theme, which has proven to be such an interesting theme:))

    1. Haha I always thought this was the “original” Robin Hood, but it seems like the one bu Howard Pyle is the main one 😂 😂 But I still love it!! And the Folio Society one is super nice! And that picture doesn’t do it justice at all!!!

      1. It’s always tricky to nail some of these tales – were they something thought up by some imaginative Victorian, or do they trail back via a long verbal tradition into the medieval era? I’m not sure! I’ll look it up when I get a moment…

      2. I believe Robin Hood is one that has a long verbal tradition. I looked it up one time and there really isn’t a pinpoint on where the story originated or even if it was based on a real person or not

  2. Ooh Robin Hood! So, I actually like a ton of these. The Puffin Classics ones might be my favorite too, and that LOOKS like a longbow he’s using. The Minecraft looking one is awesome too. 🙂

I also like the Penguin 2010 and the Loeb 1982 one.

These all look great together too- I like all the green!

      1. I don’t actually know haha! But it seems like maybe he would? That’s actually a good question and now I want to know. 🙂 I bet it varies or doesn’t really matter to the story lol.

  3. Wow! That’s a lot to choose from. My favs are Penguin 2010 (like the green background and pattern created from the trees and stags), Folio Society 2001 (the gilded design makes me think the cover might have some texture to it), Puffin 2015 (it just looks fun).

  4. Ooh, this is so cool! Personally, my favorites are both of the Penguin 2010 covers, they just look so modern and clean. I love your choice, too, though! The Puffin 1995 and the Bertrand 2019 are both really great as well. I love the illustration on the Bertrand!

  5. Two of your favourites were in my top three, but I liked the Puffin 1995 the best. There were a lot of good ones here. I liked the one with Friar Tuck and Maid Marian because they were on there. I thought it showcased some of the main characters.
