Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie @ MNBernard Books, and Flavia @ Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now hosted by Katie @ Never Not Reading, and Adrienne @ Darque Dreamer Reads. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.
This is my first time participating in Calendar Girls and I know I am 10 days late, but I saw the prompt and couldn’t resist joining! (And I hope to join more consistently and on time in the future!)
Strangest Book You’ve Ever Read
City of Dark Magic by Magnus Flyte
I didn’t even have to think about it. City of Dark Magic is, hands-down, the strangest book I’ve ever read!
The main character Sarah finds a hallucinatory drug that allows her to time travel and observe Beethoven as he was living almost 200 hundred years ago. She uses the drug to help solve a mystery. (I don’t remember what the mystery was)
It turns out the “Drug” was Beethoven’s toenail clippings ….
You read that right – Sarah eats Beethoven’s toenail clippings in order to time travel and observe her favorite composer.
Oh and there was a 400 year old dwarf, a prince, and a US senator (even tho the book takes place in Prague?)
Strange is an understatement.
