This is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy, but kept up by Lynn’s Book Blog.
“Knock, knock… ‘who’s there?’”
This weeks theme: A cover featuring a door, ajar or closed.
My Choice: Anne of Green Gables
I would not have guessed that it would be hard to find a cover featuring a door, but it was really really hard! I was able to fine an Anne of Green Gables cover with a door! Close enough!
Covers:
Signet 2003 | Bantam 1982 (1) | Puffin 2014 | Bantam 1982 (2)
Public Domain 2009 | Sterling 2004 | Amazon Classic 2017| Puffin 2008 (1)
Putnam 2008 | Modern Library 2008 | Puffin 2008 (2) | Puffin 1993
Aladdin 2014 | Puffin 1996 | Puffin 2000 | Toromítico 2013
BUR 2009 | Tundra 2014 | Open Road 2014 | Mogul 2014
There are 1,652 editions of Anne of Green Gables! Some of them are duplicate covers but that is still a LOT of covers!! I picked the first 20 that showed up in Goodreads.
Least Favorites:
Puffin 2008 (1) | Puffin 2008 (2) | Sterling 2004 | Puffin 1996
Apparently 2008 was a bad year for Puffin! I don’t like the last cover because Anne looks incredibly dull and not spunky. The Sterling cover looks creepy and her neck is at a weird angle!
Favorites:
Puffin 1993 | Bantam 1982 (2) | Puffin 2000 | Bantam 1982 (1)
I own the Bantam 1982 (1) edition, but I really like all of these!
Winner:
I really like this cover! Tho her hair could be a little more red. I like how she is sitting on the ground and her shoes are untied and she has her braids!
I really like the Tundra 2014 edition, I love the art style. Great choice, this was a hard week!

I like your pick for this but there are so many to choose from. I still haven’t read this but I’ve seen the movies and love them. I picked up copies recently and added them to my tbr though. So that’s a start, lol. Have a great weekend! 🙂

There were so many to choose from! And there were literally thousands more that I didn’t picture haha. I hope you like the books! I haven’t seen the movies so I don’t know how well they compare. Thanks! You too!

Yes, I like the illustration, but I prefer Anne16 with her suitcase waiting at the train station. The font is beautiful in that one, but admittedly it is a bit cartoonish.

Oh my goodness – what a lot of covers! And a suprising number do have doors in the background… My favourite is the first Bantam 1982 cover, which was also one of your favourites. I think the girl in that cover is most like how I imagined Anne – I remember reading the book and loving it. Thank you for a great set of covers and bringing back some very happy reading memories:)

There are a ridiculous amount of covers for Anne of Green Gables!! The first Bantam 1982 is the one I own! So that is always how I pictured her too 🙂 Glad you liked them! And that they bring back happy memories 🙂

I agree with your choice. Classic example of how sometimes a simple style can say a lot more 😀

Huh, you’re right, I can’t think of any covers with door off the top of my head! And I love the one you picked! REALLY tempted to add it to my collection. Anne of Green Gables is one of my favourites of all time. 😀

Do you own a lot of copies? I hadn’t see most of these before. 🙂

Not nearly as many as your Pride and Prejudice copies! 😛 But I do browsing them online (and asking myself I don’t NEED another copy, do I?)

What an inspired book choice. I love this. And, I’m not surprised that there are so many covers. I like the Puffin 96.

Thanks 🙂 And I don’t like her expression on that one, but otherwise I like that cover!
