I got this book from my sister. She was at a craft fair and a lady was selling blind dates with a book and my sister loved the idea and knew I loved reading.
I love the ideaΒ of Blind Date With a Book, but this lady did a pretty poor job in her execution.Β For starters she listed this as a YA book, and it is not.Β It is a Middle Grade or Children’s book.Β Secondly the book was in pretty terrible condition.Β I didn’t expect a brand new book but I didn’t expect it to be super beat up either. Still, I appreciate my sister for thinking of me and I needed a quick read so I could say I read 4 books in April.
This book was cute. I can’t remember the last time I read a middle grade book so it took me a while to get used to the quick pace and simple writing, but I ended up enjoying it.
As all middle grade books do, this one also included lessons.Β Since they were time traveling the main lessons were about the time periods they visited, and it was fun to see the view of real time periods through the eyes of a boy and his cat.Β I usually don’t like time travel books, but this one didn’t have any of the awkward interactions so I liked that a lot.
The other lessons this book taught were about cats.Β You can have fun and play with cats but you can’t control them.Β It teaches you that cats are their own creatures and they should be respected and loved. I love cats so I loved these lessons.
Overall this was a fun book and I liked the lessons.Β If you are looking for a middle grade book with fun lessons then this could be the book for you or your kid!
I read Lloyd Alexander when I was a kid, so I must have read this at some point!

So true about cats lol! Glad this one turned out good even if it was in a little rough shape. I haven’t read a middle grade book in ages, seems like!

Haha luckily the condition of the book doesn’t affect the story at all! (I guess unless it becomes unreadable, but it wasn’t in that bad of shape)

I love the idea of blind dates with a book too, even though I’m not sure about the seller’s motive here. (I can’t imagine selling books that well-used as blind dates without some kind of disclaimer.) Still, this sounds like a cute book!

I do too! My sister as actually started selling blind Dates with books at the local store that she works at and she only does books in pretty much perfect condition. The lady at the craft fair probably doesn’t get any feedback because she travels and when you buy from her you probably won’t ever see her again, but my sister has gotten some really great feedback and even repeat customers!

Anything with cats and I’m in! I don’t think I’ve ever tried that blind date for a book thing though I always talk myself out of it π

This is a Lloyd Alexander book Iβve never read! Oh, I love his writing. If you enjoyed this, definitely check out his other works. The Chronicles of Prydain is a MG/YA fantasy series (late MG, early YA) set against Welsh mythology. It he won tons of awards, including the Newbery Award and a Newbery Honor! Such fun.
Sorry this book was in such poor condition, though. Thatβs unfortunate! But at least it was still readable.
